Well, it’s been awhile since last we spoke and it’s been for many reasons mostly because I am busy living life instead of writing about it but I am going to try to do better because it feel that I have a wonderful life to share with you all.
So, it’s turkey season here in Tennessee and with the first green up of spring comes a lot of work to our farm. There are fences to check, dry land fish to find ( aka Morel Mushrooms for the foodie in me ), cows to vaccinate, and turkeys to hunt.
Now, I did not grow up hunting. That was always my husbands thing, but as I seem to be raising a family of three hunters I have finally given in and gone with my husband – AND I love it.
It’s time for us together, it’s beautiful out on our farm first thing in the morning ( but why do turkey’s get up at 4:30 am ), and as someone who LOVES to cook – I get to clean and cook what I kill.
I know that sounds strange but to me it is the ultimate in utilizing our land. And fresh wild turkey – like deer – is a healthful fresh low fat meat for my family.
So, the moral of my morning had been that hunting is a great way to feed my family healthy food and I have a great time spending time with my husband while I am at it. So, I find myself looking forward to the next season…
